Mars 2005 Apparition
The 2005 apparition of Mars is finally here! In late August 2003, Mars made
its closest approach to Earth in recorded history when it was 57 million km
(34 million miles) distant. Mars is not as close this year (43 million miles).
Mars will not be as close again until 2016, and not until 2018 will it surpass
the show of this year in closeness, brightness, and diameter.
